Navigating New Insurance and Biologic Coverage: Bezzy PsA

 Since getting a diagnosis of psoriatic arthritis, one of my biggest struggles has been dealing with health insurance. Learning about changes in coverage or hikes in copays is never fun. And once I aged out of being covered by my parents’ insurance, I had to navigate a totally new world of getting set up on new employer-sponsored insurance.

The thing I’ve found most difficult is changing insurances and getting coverage for my biologic.

In the past, I’ve switched insurances with relative ease. But last year I had a horrible experience when I got a new job. Not only was I without coverage for a short period (a total nightmare for anyone with a chronic illness), but getting coverage for my biologic, Humira, took several weeks. While waiting, I was in a flare between the stress and missing doses.

I learned many important lessons about preparing and advocating for myself during the process. If your insurance is changing soon, get prepared for change and get ready to potentially be on the phone for hours.

The Physical Therapists I Have Had

I've had a wide variety of physical therapists in my time. My first was a young woman. I had to go to Physical therapy for a few weeks to recover  from a flare when I was eight. She was very nice, and I don't remember too much actual 'work,' because mostly it seemed like we played games and such. :) My next physical therapist came when I was about twelve. She was an older woman who always started out sessions by loosening my hip. She was very nice indeed, though she did not tolerate when I started giving up the last few minutes of the session: I had to be giving way more than humanly possible at ALL times. I'm Nothing but His Toy

I've been doing a lot of writing on this blog about why the past few months were so difficult for me. But this is, by far, the most significant thing that happened to me. While I'd like to say this is something that is 'over and done with,', I can't: This is still something I'm dealing with. I'm actually nervous to share this post so publicly because I'm scared of the responses I'll receive. Please try  to understand. Fall semester was supposed to be amazing. I was going to hang out in all my favorite places with all my favorite people. But instead, it ended with me afraid to leave my room and almost completely isolated. My perfect semester was interrupted by him . I don't know if he likes me or is obsessed with me, but regardless, I find he likes to be in my company. Often, without my knowledge. He's walked behind me and followed me home. Sometimes, he sees me approaching my apartment building, sprints to the entrance and waits for me...
